Falcon 9 Launch Successful
Other launches to follow
by Carol Pinchefsky
SpaceX launched its Falcon 9 rocket today from Cape Canaveral and reached Earth orbit, according to an article in Business Week.
The launch, which was delayed earlier today, finally was go at 2:45 pm EST. The stages separated three minutes later, and the second stage ignited less than thirty seconds after that.
The success of this test launch will pave the way for a second test of Falcon 9, along with its capsule Dragon, later this year. (A dummy capsule went along for today's ride.) This in turn will pave the way for trips to and from the International Space Station...and hopefully space tourism.
For more information, see SpaceX's webcast of the launch here.
