by Carol Pinchefsky
What are you doing on April 11th? If you didn't say, "Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's flight to space," then you've answered WRONG.

For the last ten years, Yuri's Night parties have been held around the world...even on the International Space Station. Are you in Winnipeg? There's a party for you. Are you in Canberra? You can find a party there. Are you in Kabul? Yup, even there.

And if you're in New York City, there's a party for you. We'll be there, and we'd love to meet our readers.

Space Future is a proud sponsor of the New York City Yuri's Night event. The particulars can be found in press release, below. We hope to see you on the anniversary of the beginning of it all.

On 12 April 2011 Come celebrate 50 years of Space Exploration and learn whether a Space Shuttle will come to live at the Intrepid Sea Air and Space Museum! Join Eric Boehm, Curator of the Intrepid, bestselling author Howard Bloom, and a glittering constellation of other Arts and Technology luminaries for a fabulous night of music, dancing, drinks, games, and space-themed giveaways. Cielo is “New York’s Most Legendary Club.” Its futuristic lighting, sparkling décor, and luscious soundsystem will make you glad to be out on a Tuesday night!

Our star performers include The Kin, two brothers who lend their Australian voices to Shakerleg’s hands-on drumming, giving their melodic alternative music an organic quality. Their music is followed by Peter Munch, a.k.a. The Munk Machine, who will be spinning his own brand of warm techno he calls Soultech. More importantly, he’ll also be unveiling his soon-to-be-famous invention…which will change the world of DJing as we know it. And Brigadier Tego will be launching the night with world rhythm for this out-of-world event.

Throughout the New York City Yuri’s Night event, clothing designer Matthieu Boardman’s latex fiber-optic designs will light up the night as the models showcase the future of fashion. Having worked as a biomedical engineer, assisting with surgical implants of cardiac devices, to his volunteer work in sculpture and design, contributing to the advancement of techniques in local arts collectives, Matthieu has successfully fused his love of art and science into wearable fashion.

While taking its name from an accomplishment of the past, Yuri's Night provides a venue where a new generation can network, dream, and create plans for the future. There will be more than enough entertainment to engage patrons and spark their interest in the next frontier.

Cielo is located at 18 Little West 12th Street. Limited pre-sale tickets are available now at http://bit.ly/yurisnite. VIP packages, which include early entry, cocktail hour with special guests, and unique space-themed giveaways are also on sale.
