Yes.  The Space Frontier Conference is the closest event to date which
brings space activity closer to the general public. There is still a lot of
insider talk (technology and politics, mainly), but it does help expose the
curious outsider to the "alternative" space industry.

I believe we need to work on better communication with the general public
about space.  Something that is not "Star Trek" yet is not boring science.
I think the Space Tourism Society's upcoming conference may fit the bill.
