FY Outrage,

It's official, "Jurassic Pork" is underway. Dinosaur government
contractors claiming to be commercial companies are failing - now NASA
is openly trying to necessitate these fading behemoths.

"The Space Business Archives and NASA to Cooperate On Preserving the
Commercial Space Industry's Legacy -
'Lessons Learned' in Commercial Space's Past Could Facilitate Private
Investment in Future Programs"

: The Space Business Archives and the National Aeronautics and Space
: Administration have agreed to cooperate on preserving the history
: of the commercial space industry and making it available to business
: leaders, government decision-makers, historians and the public
worldwide.

I guess the concept of proprietary data and trade secrets are a foreign
concepts to these people.

: The Space Business Archives is a unique international collection that
:traces the history of the men and women who succeeded in taking
: non-government industry into outer space.

Or the version of commercial space history that they prefer.

: The Archives was created by industry officials convinced the history
: of commercial space was being lost through destruction of documents
: and departure of key industry personnel through industry downsizing
: and retirements.

I think this is called thinning the dead wood. I'm sure NASA and it's
contractors are very familiar with the practice of destroying
incriminating documents.

: More than 40,000 documents have been amassed by the Space Business
: Archives since its founding in 1992. They are housed in an
: environmentally controlled, state-of-the-art archival facility
: located outside Washington, D.C.

I think they call that the recycle bin. :)

: Jeffrey Manber, the Space Business Archives' founder, said.

Excuse me, but isn't Manber the head of Energia USA? Considering that
Energia USA is the American marketing arm of the Russian company
RSC-Energia, which controls commercial activity on Mir and is teamed
with Boeing, SPACEHAB and Damlier-Benz to "privatize" ISS, isn't this a
gross conflict of interest?

: ``The agreement between the Archives and NASA opens up an important
: cooperation that will help us locate more business plans, proposals,
: video tapes, pictures and other key papers that otherwise would be
: lost to history, or relegated to dusty shelves in company
storerooms.''

I certainly hope that they do have a certain proposal provided to NASA
HQ - I could use the millions that the lawsuit for breach of the
non-disclosure contract will bring.

: Lori B. Garver, NASA associate administrator for policy and plans,
: said the agency is looking forward to a long-term cooperation with
: the Archives.

Am I not surprised that Garver is behind something this twisted and
harmful to the commercial space industry. Hint Ms. Garver: it is a
felony for a government employee to release the contents of unsolicited
proposals without the permission of the submitter.

: ``This represents the type of partnership the Agency is seeking
: between the government and the private sector,'' she said.

NASA trying to pick winners in the commercial space market - I'm
shocked. :)

: * Collaboration by the NASA History Office and the Space Business
: Archives in the assembly of documentary materials relating to the
: history of international cooperation and competition in space,

Just what does this have to do with commercial space? It does have a
lot to do with promoting Energia USA.

: * Cooperation between the Space Business Archives and NASA in
: formulating ways of assuring the preservation and widest access
: of information relating to the history of the United States space
: program, including the role of the private sector, and

Note the "oh, by the way" inclusion of "the private sector."

: * Improving the access for properly accredited researchers to the
: Space Business Archives, as well as to NASA's History Office and
: the NASA Office of Policy and Plans.

In other words data flows in and not out, or you can't see it but our
buddies can.

: At the memorandum's signing, Manber said the Space Business Archives
: is now calling on the commercial space community for additional
donations.

I guess he missed the part of commercial dealing with profit. Well here
is my "donation." :)
