Actually Kistler has a lot of "big boy" connections (check out their
board of directors and their subcontractors.) Not to take away from
Kistler's accomplishments though.

Actually Rotary is piloted from the get go. Kelly and pioneer have
pilots for the atmospheric stages, but initial upper stages are
unmanned.

Well I wouldn't count that card just yet. Kistler is hedging their bets
with the Ausie tests. I'm sure for many reasons they would prefer to
end up launching in the U.S. I'd love to see the Ausies get more
commercial launcher business, but U.S. companies are still bound by the
liability laws and munitions export laws (not to mention Australia's
high tariffs on imports.) Hopefully some regulation streamlining will
make domestic commercial flights less of a hassle.
I don't think we should get too attached to any particular company or
vehicle. We all win if several of them start flying near the same time
frame. The ensuing competition will force prices down and reliability
up. May we live in interesting times. :)
