Advocacy Organizations - Any Worthwhile?

I was just curious of anybody's feelings
towards groups such as the Space Frontier Foundation, do you think any of these
organizations do a good (worth the membership money) job of advocacy on behalf
of their members on realizing their stated goals, etc.?

If so, which ones?

If you don't think these sort of groups do a good job, do you have
any other suggestions as to how best to actively support and encourage
development in "commercial space," and facilitate communication
between disparate "space enthusiasts" everywhere?

Any other information, opinions, etc., would be
appreciated.
