The maiden launch will definitely get postponed untill 1999.
This is a prime example of why it is so difficult for innovation to occur
in the aerospace industry. Commercial aerospace products are too easily
switchable with military aerospace products. National Politics and stiff
import/export regulations make it next to impossible for a company to try
something new with aerospace stuff if it at all interacts with foreign
powers.
I'm surprised that Kistler hasn't been stopped by now. Sure, they may be
launching from Australia, but you never know if the vehicle may
accidentially land somewhere unexpected. Like China.
Call me paranoid, but that is how the U.S. State and Defense departments think.
