On July 20, Northrop Grumman purchased Scaled Composites, the company that built SpaceShipOne, which won the Ansari X-Prize in 2004.
Although the deal was reported in a Space.com article , it has yet to be announced on Northrop Grumman's own website.
The aerospace and defense company was recently awarded a US$408 million contract for early warning and "battle management command and control" aircraft for the United States Navy. Northrop Grumman previously owned a 40% share of Scaled Composites.
There is no word on how this will effect the construction of Scaled Composites' descendant of SpaceShipOne, SpaceShipTwo.
